About the Col’ |
|
The Colonel is a Yellow 2001 MGF Trophy 160 He was bought by his current owner Dave in June 2006, and currently lives in Essex. His name came from a conversation with a friend, where he referred to him as Colonel Mustard, my reply being that the colour was more like custard, and the name stuck ( thanks Woodsy !). The Trophy 160 Named after the MGF single make race series, MG put some of the knowledge gained from that series into the car. Changes to the air filter, inlet manifold, exhaust manifold and exhaust have produced an increase of power, taking the 1.8 VVC in the trophy up to 160PS, about 158bhp ( compared to 145PS of the standard 1.8 VVC engine). Besides its obvious lower stance (20mm) over the standard MGF, it also has AP racing “MG” branded red coloured 4 pot brake callipers acting on 304mm diameter ventilated front brake discs, it also has a front bib splitter to reduce front-end lift and a rear deck spoiler & re styled front headlamps. The suspension has also had some modifications to the damping rates making it a bit more of a firmer ride than the standard MGF. The alloy wheels were also different, being 16” low profile, so as to accommodate the larger brake callipers. The interior has body coloured centre console & door trim inserts, plus coloured high lights on the seats & steering wheel. The Trophy is a limited edition, of 500 cars. The Trophy came in a range of 4 colours, Trophy Yellow, Trophy Blue, Solar Red and Anthracite, the yellow and blue paints were created specially for this model. The Colonel has stared to head to the “Dark Side” with a couple of minor modifications, the first being the smoked black Lexus style rear lights, which complement the yellow paint perfectly, with the second being a Trevor Taylor exhaust, which give the car a proper sporty exhaust note. |
